Brief "Thank You" Note
"I haven't had an orthodox career, and I've wanted more than anything to have your respect."
Hello all,
I want to thank everyone who read my first post, "A Taste of Armageddon", and either subscribed to this newsletter or shared the post afterward. In my most optimistic projections, I thought I could convert 1% of my twitter following to readers. The reception has beaten those expectations.
I also want to thank everyone who opened the post, read it to the end, and may not have subscribed. There are millions of people competing for your time and attention these days, and taking a few minutes to read something from someone you’ve never read before is taking a risk. So a sincere thank you to those folks as well.
I also want to give a special shout-out to folks on Twitter who replied with rebuttals and dissent to “Armageddon,” — I thoroughly enjoy respectful, fact-based debate, and hope to compile an article featuring some counterarguments to “Armageddon” and brief counter-counterarguments from me. I hope to do this for every “feature-length” article going forward (but can’t guarantee I can do it for all). Regardless, if you do have an insightful counterpoint to anything I write, you are strongly encouraged to leave it in my replies on Twitter1. I plan to pin my latest article on my profile.
A quick preview of what’s on deck:
I’ll be shipping a fun, light article on or around Friday. Lots of pictures, not a lot of words. Did you know the US has an all-but-official single national color? Find out in “Blue Harvest.”
My next feature-length article — “The China Syndrome” — will ship sometime Sunday-ish. It will discuss how the US can still expect to be a very relevant country late in this century, and it’s mostly because of luck.
“A Taste of Armageddon, Revisited” will feature some counterarguments to my inaugural feature-length post, as well as some rebuttals from me. Don’t know when this will happen, but likely before “China” is shipped.
Stay tuned!
Thank you all so very much,
Sherman McCoy
Please do be sure to read the article before replying, though! I can generally tell when I’m reading someone who read top to bottom or just the lede. I got many replies along the lines of “you’re wrong, the civil war is happening, it’s just online” — which is precisely the point of the article!
